Summary

Queer as Folk is America's version of the British series of the same name. Created by Russell T. Davies, Queer as Folk revolves around the lives of liberal gay men and women in the community of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The story follows Brian Kinney (Gale Harold), an attractive promiscuous advertising executive, his best friend and secret admirer Michael Novotny (Hal Sparks), Justin Taylor (Randy Harrison), another one of Brian's suitors, the flamboyant Emmett Honeycutt (Peter Paige) and Ted Schmidt (Scott Lowell), an accountant who envies Brian's lavish lifestyle. Along with the five gay men are lesbian couple Lindsay Peterson (Thea Gill) and Melanie Marcus (Michelle Clunie) who are two of Brian's closest friends. Queer as Folk follows the laughter and drama in the lives of the liberated individuals who dare to step into the limelight of their not-so-ordinary sexuality.

robert grantAs the HIV-positive college professor Ben Bruckner, Robert Gant became one of the main characters on Showtime's Queer as Folk.  He was introduced in season two as the first customer in the comic book store of Michael Novotny (Hal Sparks) who eventually pursued a relationship with him.  Throughout the series, Ben had his fair share of fights with Michael but still endured all obstacles and came through as Michael's long-term partner.  Next year, the 39-year-old actor will be putting his acting expertise to the test as he takes on an action-spy movie.

queer as folkSherry Miller was known as the real estate agent Jennifer Taylor on the series Queer as Folk.  She portrayed the mother of Justin (Randy Harrison) and Molly, and later, the ex-wife of Craig Taylor.  For the most part, she struggled to come to terms with her son's homosexuality.  But with the help of Debbie Novotny, who strongly supports gay rights, and by joining the organization PFLAG, she finally embraced the fact that her son was gay and accepted his partner Brian Kinney (Gale Harold) as a son-in-law towards the end.  In the coming months, the Canadian actress will be featured in a drama miniseries and will be busy working on her new TV project.

thea gillThea Gill was popularly known as the character Lindsay Peterson on Showtime’s Queer as Folk. Because of her controversial role, she earned an ACTRA Toronto Award nomination for her performance in 2003. As one of the main characters on the series, she portrayed a lesbian who was the domestic partner of Melanie Marcus. In addition, she was the natural mother of Gus, by way of artificial insemination from long time friend Brian Kinney, and also became the adoptive mother of Jenny Rebecca Novotny-Marcus.

Scott LowellScott Lowell gained fame when he was cast on the series Queer as Folk.  As the character Theodore Schmidt, he initially worked as an accountant who often envied Brian Kinney’s lavish lifestyle.  He got fired for viewing pornography at work and eventually established his own porn website business.  Although often rejected by various men, he had a relationship with Emmett Honeycutt and an on-and-off affair with Blake Wyzecki.  Throughout the show, he was haunted by his insecurities and low self-esteem. He even went through extensive plastic surgery in an attempt to grow confidence.  Before the series ended, Scott Lowell earned several Prism Award nominations for Performance in a Drama Series Storyline and Performance in a Drama Series Multi-Episode Storyline.
