Biography

Actor Thomas Jane, born Thomas Elliott III, was born on February 22, 1969 in Baltimore, Maryland. He made his film debut before graduating in high school, when he starred in the Indian film Padamati Sandhya Ragam in 1986. He would return to the screen a few years later, taking in supporting roles in films such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Face/Off, Boogie Nights, The Thin Red Line and Deep Blue Sea.

Jane attracted critical acclaim with his performance in the television movie 61*, where he appeared as baseball player Mickey Mantle. This led to more high profile projects, including the acclaimed film Stander, as well as supporting roles in Dreamcatcher, Original Sin and The Sweetest Thing. Mainstream success came in 2004, when—after turning down similar roles—he took on the title role in the comic book movie The Punisher, which was a commercial success; however, creative differences led him to drop out of production for the film’s sequel.

Jane also acted on stage, having appeared in productions of The Glass Menagerie and All My Sons, to positive reviews. He’s also written the comic book Bad Planet, and has also directed a couple of films, including 2009’s Dark Country, where he also starred. He only took a few television projects, including an appearance as himself in the comedy Arrested Development; his first regular television role is in the upcoming HBO series, Hung.

Jane married fellow actress Patricia Arquette in 2006, three years after the birth of their daughter. However, early in 2009, Arquette filed for divorce over irreconcilable differences.
