Sonja Sohn began her career as a slam poet, with her work being used for the 1998 film Slam, before pursuing an acting career. She is best known as lesbian detective Kima Greggs on the acclaimed HBO series The Wire, which she joined from its premiere in 2002 until its finale in 2008. She also held recurring roles in Cold Case and Brothers & Sisters, and later starred in the ABC series Body of Proof.
Sohn also appeared in films such as Shaft, The Killing Zone and Step Up 2: The Streets. She also works as a screenwriter and political activist, having supported the presidential bid of Barack Obama, and currently heading the Baltimore-based program reWIRED for Change.
Sohn, who is part-African and part-Korean, is married to Australian composer Adam Plack.
