Shalini Kantayya is a 30-year old freelance director from Hartford, Connecticut. She is a first generation Indian American who fell in love with the art of visual imagery after visiting a Buddhist monastery in South India when she was nineteen. The year after she finished college, she went on a trip across West Africa and the Caribbean to make a documentary. She honed her craft at New York post-production houses and filmed a wild Bengal tiger, made hip hop videos in Brooklyn, interviewed the fourteenth Dalai Lama and the Pope, all in a decade of shuttling between Bollywood and the New York indie film industry.
Shalini Kantayya is among eighteen aspiring filmmakers vying for a chance to produce their films on the reality show, On the Lot.
