Patrick Wilson is no stranger to the limelight. He was born on July 3, 1973, with a singer for a mother and a news anchor for a father. He graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a drama degree in 1995. He started acting on stage a year later, with Carousel, and appeared in other plays such as Bright Lights, Big City and The Full Monty, which earned him a Drama League award and a Tony nomination.
Patrick Wilson’s first film is My Sister’s Wedding, shown in 2001. His first mainstream success, however, was his stint in the 2004 HBO miniseries Angels in America. His role as Joe Pitt earned him Emmy and Golden Globe nominations, among others. He appeared in films like The Alamo and the adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera, both released in 2004. He was nominated for a Satellite Award for his role in The Phantom of the Opera the following year.
In 2006, Patrick Wilson appeared in Little Children, alongside Kate Winslet. His performance as a disillusioned stay-at-home father entangling himself in an illicit affair earned him another Satellite Award nomination for best actor in a drama. He won a Young Hollywood Award for the same role.
He continued his theater career despite his success in the movies. He got another Tony Award nomination for his performance in the Broadway hit Oklahoma! in 2002. He also appeared in the 2006 play Barefoot in the Park. He appeared alongside Edward Burns and Selma Blair in the independent film Purple Violets, released in 2007. The same year, he appeared with Meryl Streep and Glenn Close in the film Evening.
In 2005, he married fellow actress and Carnegie Mellon graduate Dagmara Dominczyk, with whom he has a child. He is slated to appear in Passengers alongside Anne Hathaway, in Lakeview Terrace with Samuel B. Jackson, and in the film adaptation to the graphic novel Watchmen.
