Michael Sarver, born on February 9, 1981, is one of the finalists of the eighth season of American Idol. He was born in Sulphur, Louisiana, where he spent most of his early years; he later moved to Jasper, Texas, with his wife Tiffany and two children. Before joining the competition, he worked as an oil rig worker.
Sarver joined the show through auditions in Phoenix, Arizona. He worked his way through the Hollywood auditions, and almost didn’t make it through to the top 36; however, the judges decided to get him and Matt Breitzke in. He was part of the first batch of semifinalists to perform, where he pulled a minor upset by beating fan favorite Anoop Desai in votes; he look the third slot in the Top 12 by edging out Desai by just over 20,000 votes. Sarver became known for his easygoing nature and country charm, although some viewers argue that his vocals aren’t that spectacular. Only once has be been in the bottom three so far, during Grand Ole Opry week.
