With Joni Mitchell as her inspiration, soulful songwriter Melissa Rapp found her way into the music industry. But this Stanford University graduate had a rough road getting there. She took on a job at Google before abandoning it to pursue her passion for the art. She has since become a fulltime musician, hoping to win over the hearts of many with her songs.
Fueled by her love of the genre, Melissa Rapp decided to become a contestant on Bravo's reality competition Platinum Hit. He is one of 12 other songwriters who are hoping to make it big in the music industry. Each episode challenges the contestants as they write and perform lyrics from a variety of genres, from rock music to ballads. The winner will receive a cash prize of $100,000, a publishing deal with songwriting collective The Writing Camp, and a recording deal with RCA/Jive label. Judging the contestants are Kara DioGuardi and Jewel, along with a number of guest judges.
