American actress and singer Mackenzie Phillips was born on November 10, 1959 in Alexandria, Virginia. The daughter of Susan Adams and The Mamas & the Papas singer John Phillips, she was educated at Highland Hall Waldorf School. When she was 12 years old, she formed a band with her classmates and was spotted by a casting agent during one of their performances. This led to her getting a role in American Graffiti and her subsequent fame.
Mackenzie Phillips's next role was on the long-running television show One Day at a Time. She also got involved in controversy, having been arrested for public drunkenness and possession of cocaine in 1977. Three years later, she was fired from the show because of her inability to handle her addiction. She underwent treatment at Fair Oaks Hospital and was hired back by the producers, but she collapsed on the set and her character was written out of the series. Later on though, she continued her career with a role in the Disney Channel series So Weird. She also appeared in the Disney Channel original movie Double Teamed. Other roles of hers include those in 7th Heaven, Cold Case, ER and Without a Trace. She soon participated in the third season of Celebrity Rehab and continued her recovery in 2010.
- Her first husband is Jeff Sessler, but they divorced and she married Michael Barakan. Though they have a son together, their marriage ended in 2000 and she was wed to Keith Levenson five years later.
- She is the half-sister of Bijou Phillips, Chynna Phillips and Tamerlane Phillips and the sister of Jeffrey Phillips.
