Jake Smollett grew up in a family of entertainers and he started his career very early as a diaper model. He then bagged his first scripted role at age 3 in Hanging with Mr. Cooper. His siblings are Jojo, Jussie, Jocqui, Jazz and Jurnee, and have all been performing at some point in their lives. The actor wasn’t held back or daunted by the success of his brothers and sisters, and even worked with them to star in a short-lived ABC sitcom. It was titled On Our Own, which aired in 1995. He played the role of Joc Jerrico in the family comedy.
Jake Smollet later landed a part in 1997’s Eve’s Bayou, acting alongside his sister Jurnee. The drama allowed the two of them to work with stars like Samuel L. Jackson, Meagan Good, Lynn Whitfield, and Debbi Morgan. Regarding his taste for movies, he enjoys classic horror and suspense, especially the really weird ones. This caused him to develop an interest in the script for The Middleman, deciding to audition for a role. He later got the part of Noser, the eccentric neighbor of Wendy and Lacey, played by Natalie Morales and Brit Morgan respectively. Other than acting, Jake Smollet has also dabbled in charity work. He is known to be a huge supporter for ANSA, or Artists for a New South Africa, a nonprofit organization working in the US and South Africa to solve social and political ills. Not to be outdone by his more famous sister, though, Jake has a Young Artist Award nomination under his belt in 1995 for Best Performance by an Actor Under Ten in a TV Series for On Our Own. He has also ventured into directing, working with the top fitness and fashion model Troy Warwell for a video titled Model Workout with Troy Warwell. Smollet has also made an appearance at the 39th NAACP Image Awards, together with Wayne Brady, Yaya DaCosta, and Aretha Franklin.
