Born on December 21, 1984 in Singapore, Jackson Rathbone is an actor best known for his role as Nicholas Fiske on the ABC Family drama Beautiful People, plus guest roles on several television series, and as Jasper Hale in the movie adaptation of the widely popular vampire-themed novel Twilight.
Rathbone was born in Singapore and grew up in places as diverse as Indonesia, Texas, London, Connecticut, and Norway. He started out his foray into acting in local theater in Texas, with a youth actors program called The Pickwick Players, where he did largely musical theater. During his junior and senior year in high school, he attended the Interlochen Arts Academy, a private school for the arts in Michigan, where he majored in acting.
For about four years, he was with a local actor’s group, where he mostly danced and sang. He then got into Shakespeare, in one of his friend’s versions Othello, something that had him falling in love with classical theater.
When Rathbone graduated, he planned to attend the Royal Scottish Academy but went instead to Los Angeles to experiment with the big screen. He then ventured with Disney’s 411. He bagged the lead in the ABC Family show Beautiful People, which premiered in 2005. He also sings, writes, and produces. His other screen credits include River’s End, Close to Home, and The OC in 2006, The Valley of Light, The War at Home, and Big Satan in 2007, and Young Again, Hurt in 2008.
As for Twilight, he said the audition place was fairly close to where he lived so he just walked in with his guitar, where he eventually got a couple of callbacks. He continued his career with a role in the movie adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, playing the character Sokka in 2010.

"I'm all about nightlife. I live during the night."
"I couldn't do without my guitar, Annabelle. When I picked it out, I thought, 'This is a great sounding Southern Resonator, and it needs an appropriate Southern girl's name"
"It's not exactly that I can't stay in one place. It's that if I'm in one place, I have to rearrange it every four to six months! I have to completely change my room!"
"When you're off between scenes and your co-worker is back on set and their trailer is completely open, you don't have any choice but to sneak into it and put up wonderful cute-boy pictures all over."
"Before I started my career in tv and film, the way I felt most comfortable expressing my feelings was through writing songs. It's the best way to express emotions."
"I haven't been in Texas that entire time, I get my accent from my family."
"My hair’s naturally curly. It’s also naturally brown, so they dyed my hair for the part. They tried straightening it, and it came out looking awful."
"“Walking around in real life as a blond is a little bit different, I’ve got to say, I don’t know if I’ve been having more fun, but it’s not bad. … I’m a hat guy. I wear hats all the time anyway, so I’ve just been wearing a hat, double time."
"When I was talking to my family about the auditions and this book that I was reading, I was saying how my little sister might like it because my little sister is 13 years old. So I kind of recommended it, but my mother said that a bunch of her little friends had read the books and then it turned out that a bunch of my cousins had read the books. And as soon as I booked the job, I found out that pretty much everyone I knew had read it! The thing is that my cousins are not tweens - they're girls with law degrees with husbands. They work. It's amazing how one book is so accessible to everyone!"
"I used to want to be a vampire when I was young. It'd be great, you know? Run around at night, never die, kill people. It sounds like a great life!"
"I stay away from Facebook and MySpace. Whenever I go out with a friend, they're like 'I didn't know you had a MySpace.' I don't have a MySpace. There's actually three MySpaces for Jackson Rathbone. I don't know who these people are but they're not me!"
"I got my butt kicked a few times by my sisters. But I grew up so southern that my father would say, 'You take it like a man.' And I'd be like, 'Oh, what? I'm 5!' But it was interesting. My dad always taught me to treat my girlfriends the way I wanted my sisters to be treated by their boyfriends. They always taught me a really wonderful level of respect that's not common these days."
"When it comes to my sisters' boyfriends, I'm either cool with them or my sisters know that I hate them. I'm pretty blunt with them and to the point. Back in high school, there were a couple of boys my sisters had and man, I let them know I didn't like them. I was pretty upfront but my dad always had it right. Whenever my sisters brought them over to the house for the first time, he'd be teaching me how to clean the shotguns."
"I miss Texas so bad. That's the hard part about being out here in L.A., trying to pursue acting and music and lighting and production and stuff. It takes a lot of time out from your personal life, and I can only get back to Texas three times a year at most. It's tough."
"We had a lot of weather issues on the set of Twilight. One day we really needed the clouds to cover the sun, so we started doing a cloud dance, initiated by our director. We started dancing around and the extras really got into it. The entire set was dancing. And a few minutes later the clouds came, so it might've worked."
