Biography

Born in 1950 in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, Gerard McSorley is an actor best known for his role as Robert Aske in the Showtime period drama The Tudors and the 2010 Ridley Scott-directed film Robin Hood. He attended a Christian Brothers school in his hometown and later St. Columb’s College in Derry. He also attended Queen’s University in Belfast. After graduation, he dabbled in theater, spending much of his early career in theater, most notably at the Abbey Theater in Dublin. He played Michael Evans in the West End and Broadway productions of Dancing at Lughnasa in the early 1990s. This was followed by Hollywood movies, including Braveheart, In the Name of the Father, and The Departed. He was cast as Robert Aske in Showtime’s The Tudors.
