Floyd Mayweather, Jr. appears as a contestant in the fifth season of the ABC network’s celebrity reality TV dance competition series Dancing with the Stars. He is a professional American boxer who was born on February 24, 1977 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and comes from a family line heavily involved with boxing. His father Floyd Mayweather Sr. is a former convicted felon and a former welterweight contender, who presently works as a professional boxing trainer and coach. One of his uncles, Roger Mayweather, is a former two-division champion and is currently his trainer. His other uncle Jeff Mayweather is a former IBO super featherweight champion.
Mayweather Jr. has progressed through various weight divisions and rankings, from super featherweight to lightweight, light welterweight, welterweight, and light middleweight. Among his opponents have been Carlos ‘Famoso’ Hernandez, Jose Luis Castillo, and Oscar de la Hoya. Mayweather Jr.’s fighting style has been described as being highly defensive, even to the point of being nicknamed “Pretty Boy” by his sparring partners due to the fact that his face almost never had any scratches or bruises after fights. He also often uses the technique known as the shoulder roll. Apart from boxing, he has started his own record label named Philthy Rich Records.
