Biography

Edie Falco is a film, television and stage performer who was born on July 5, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. She is the daughter of Italian-American commercial sculptor Frank Falco and Swedish actress Judith Anderson. Edie likewise has three siblings named Ruth, Paul, and Joseph. She is also related to the poet, playwright and novelist Edward Falco, who is her uncle and a professor at Virginia Tech in Blackburg. Edie was brought up in Northport on Long Island, and has an adopted son named Anderson. After graduating from Northport High School in 1981, she went on to pursue higher learning at SUNY Purchase together with fellow actors Ving Rhames and Stanley Tucci, with whom she maintains good ties. One of her notable achievements is receiving a Golden Globe Award, an Emmy, and a Screen Actors Guild Award all in the same year.

Diane Wittlesey is portrayed by Edie Falco in the HBO prison drama television series Oz. She is a divorced woman who has been a victim of various misfortunes, such as drug abuse, spousal abuse, alcoholism, and poverty. In return, however, she became familiar with the workings of the criminal world. As one of the Oswald Maximum Security Penitentiary’s correctional officers, she works there in order to support her mother, who is afflicted with cancer.
