Born Cameron Michelle Diaz on August 30, 1972 in San Diego, California, Cameron Diaz, Hollywood actress and former fashion model, is one of only three actresses to join the $20 Million Club, the list of actresses who have earned that much money for starring in a single film. Her more prominent roles include Kim in My Best Friend’s Wedding, Mary in There’s Something About Mary, Natalie in Charlie’s Angels, Jenny in Gangs of New York, and the voice for Princess Fiona for the Shrek movies.
The daughter of an import-export agent and an oil company worker, Diaz attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School at the same time as rapper Snoop Dogg. Straight out of high school, Diaz signed with top modeling agency Elite Model Management at 16. She went to Japan to start working. She modeled for the likes of Calvin Klein and Levi’s and appeared on a cover of Seventeen magazine.
Cameron Diaz’s first movie role was the female lead in the Jim Carrey film The Mask. Because she did not have any acting experience, she signed up for acting lessons after getting the part. After a series of low-budget independent films, Diaz gained mainstream popularity with the highly popular My Best Friend’s Wedding. Her role in There’s Something About Mary, meanwhile, earned her a Golden Globe nomination. She would get more critical acclaim for her role in Being John Malkovich. At the break of the 21st century, Diaz starred in many films, such as A Life Less Ordinary, Any Given Sunday, Charlie’s Angels, Shrek, Vanilla Sky, Gangs of New York, and The Holiday.
Cameron Diaz dated actor Matt Dillon for three years since 1995. She also had a relationship with actor Jared Leto and an even more highly publicized one with former *NSYNC member Justin Timberlake. The two announced their break-up in January 2007. Diaz has obsessive-compulsive disorder and is deeply germaphobic.
