Why are the aliens so bad?

I was a big fan of the original series and I at first I really enjoyed the remake but the last few episodes have left me unimpressed. So far I don't see what is so bad about the aliens. Sure they've tortured a few people and killed a few others but the fifth column has done the same. It's like the show wants us to think that they are evil just because they look like lizards under their fake skin. They've made allusions to "extractions" from the live aboards but haven't provided any details. In the original series we had a reason to really fear the Visitors as they meant the extinction of the human race. When will they get on with the plot exposition to show us what threat these Visitors really pose so we can start caring about the success and failures of the fifth column?

Well, they are injecting hundreds of needles into people, I think that qualifies as evil. They want to track us, they kill their own without remorse, such as when Anna did her little loyalty test.
