Carrying a baby onscreen and in real life is not easy for
Poppy Montgomery whose pregnancy has been integrated into the storyline of her character Samantha Spade on
Without A Trace. For one thing, she has to deal with work, while putting up with the qualms and discomforts of her pregnant state.
The countless little side effects of pregnancy are now taking their toll on the actress, who is also due this month.
"If it's not the chocolate cravings, it's the nonstop peeing and the constant weepiness," Montgomery told
TV Guide of her sudden burst of emotions. "And don't get me started on TV commercials. I can cry over a dog food ad!"
On the other hand, working while being pregnant also has its upshot as it has brought together Montgomery and real-life boyfriend Adam Kaufman closer professionally. On
Without A Trace, Samantha reveals that she is pregnant from a one-night stand with a bartender, Brian Donavan, who is fittingly played by Kaufman.
According to TV Guide, Kaufman, who first appeared on the episode “At Rest” and most recently on “Fight/Flight,” is expected to stick around for at least three more episodes, partly to see if their fling can turn into a lasting relationship.
"We'll try to make a go of it but it could be tough for Samantha," Montgomery said. "She's always been a commitment-phobe. But I'm hoping pregnancy will soften Sam up a bit and help her make better choices romantically."
Kaufman and Montgomery met three years ago on the set of an independent film entitled
Between. Even though they're not married, the
Without A Trace star hasn't completely ruled out the idea.
“He wants to get married. It's something we'll probably get around to doing for the sake of the baby, but right now I'm just focusing on getting him out safely," she said. "It's going to be such a miracle.”
