ABC Family's horse racing drama Wildfire
is returning with brand-new episodes tonight, kicking off the new year with the fourth season opener called "The More Things Change." Tonight's episode is the first half of a two-parter that will conclude next Monday, January 28.
In "The More Things Change, part 1," Kris (Genevieve Cortese
) is still banned from Raintree after participating in an illegal race six months ago. Raintree has gone through significant operational changes, which makes Matt (Micah Alberti
) long for the past.
Meanwhile, Dani (Nicole Tubiola
) is busy with a new business venture, and Junior (Ryan Sypek
) contemplates about an important personal decision.
After tonight's broadcast, only seven more episodes of Wildfire
will air, after which ABC Family's new reality series, America's Prom Queen
, will debut. Prom Queen
will run through April 21, after which the last five installments of Wildfire will hit the screen.
's roaring back with a great story arc that builds to a cliffhanger in March, and then after a mid-season break, it will return in April for a climax that will not disappoint our many fans,” ABC Family president Paul Lee said in a statement last month.
Wildfire made its debut in 2005. Since then, it has ranked as the network's second-highest original series in terms of total viewers, drawing an average of 1.6 million viewers for its premiere showings. It's also the network's second most-watched scripted series among adults 18-49 and women 18-49.
In previewing the show's fourth season, Cortese said that the characters have not only matured, but also at a “different place in their lives,” so much so that in the end, “they're going to find more of a resolve.”
As for her onscreen alter-ego, Cortese said that fans will get “a lot of conflict with Kris, especially in the first six episodes. Its similar [to the] conflicts [she experienced] when she first got back to Raintree [because] she has to be reintroduced, but at the same time she's at a different point in her life.”
Catch the fourth season premiere of Wildfire
tonight, airing at 9/8c on ABC Family.
