American actor Wesley Jonathan was born on October 18, 1978 in Walnut Creek, California. Possessing mixed Native Indian and African-American heritage, as a child he lived for four years in Germany and traveled throughout Europe with his mother, learning about different cultures and the diversity of races. One of his earliest roles was alongside Johnny Depp in the police drama 21 Jump Street. He also worked on other TV series and movies such as NYPD Blue, Boston Public, Judging Amy, Felicity, and Stomp the Yard.

Gary Thorpe is portrayed by Wesley Jonathan in the WB sitcom What I Like About You. At first he has a crush on Holly, though he’s also her best friend, and is a bit of a conspiracy theory nerd. He claims that pyramids are spaceships and that Stonehenge is just one rock with several mirrors around it. He also becomes best friends with Vince and moves in with him in later seasons, with several implied homoerotic jokes coming from the two. Gary eventually finds himself drawn to Tina, with whom he’s had a long love-hate relationship with throughout the series, and they get together at the very end.
