Ugly Betty: Daniel's New Assistant Talks Romance (Or the Lack of It)
Jamie-Lynn Sigler's character has cast a dark shadow on Ugly Betty, literally.  With all the black makeup she has on and those wigs, she has definitely become quite a presence on the show.  On an interview with TV Guide, the actress discussed her role as Natalie on the ABC series, from joining Mode as Daniel's (Eric Mabius) assistant to what's in store for the future.

First off, one can hardly tell that it's that star from The Sopranos under that recent makeover in Betty's world.  However, she won't always be like that throughout her five-episode arc.  "The look, as we go on, is going to change," Sigler told the publication.

"She's going to have a bit of a transformation, not a big makeover, when she starts working at Mode, because I think she realizes what kind of place it is and what it stands for and maybe her look won't necessarily fit in that well.  So she does some adjustments to her look."

That won't be the only adjustments that she'll have for Ugly Betty.  Her entry into Mode brings a whole new set of changes, not just for her but for her friend and boss, Daniel.

"Daniel really cares for Natalie, and it's the first time he's had someone in his life who he can trust, other than Betty," the 28-year-old actress revealed.  "He feels like he can't even trust his mom or his family."

But this trust will only end in a rather platonic way for the two characters.  When asked about a possible romance with Daniel, Jamie-Lynn Sigler shot down the idea.

"This is not going to be a typical love interest role," she explained.  "Being a fan of the show, I don't think it would be right so close to Molly's death for him to meet a woman in a bereavement group and start dating her."

That's certainly a sigh of relief.  Even so, Natalie and Daniel will continue to work close to one another, especially with their involvement with the Community of the Phoenix.  "Right now it seems like something that could inspire Daniel and Natalie to live their lives in a different way, a real support group," she said.

She even hinted at how this could affect the company soon.  "Daniel and Natalie's relationship with work and the Community start to bleed together, especially when [Bennett] starts hanging out at Mode."
