That's it for another Hollywood couple: Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher are splitting up, after six years of marriage.
Both actors' representatives have confirmed that Moore, who tied the knot with Kutcher in 2005, is filing for divorce, just weeks after allegations surrounding the Two and a Half Men star's extramarital affairs have surfaced.
"It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton," the actress said, in
a statement posted on Entertainment Weekly's website. "As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life. This is a trying time for me and my family, and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation."
Kutcher, naturally, went on Twitter to confirm the news. "I will forever cherish the time I spent with Demi,"
he told his followers. "Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world and unfortunately sometimes they fail."
Rumors of the couple's breakup intensified over the past few weeks, after Kutcher's alleged mistress, Sara Leal, told of her one-night stand the actor
in an interview with US Weekly. (At one point she claimed Kutcher said he was separated at the time of the affair.) The couple's vague tweets (or lack of) didn't help matters, either. Considering all that, I guess it was time they come out with the truth -- but what that is, we'll never know.
This isn't the first time the couple faced controversy: their 16-year age gap (she's 49, he's 33) raised eyebrows when they first dated in 2003. Just last year, another woman, Brittney Jones, claimed to have had sex with Kutcher.
