CBS exceeded all networks and
The Young and the Restless topped all shows when nominations were announced for the 35th annual Daytime Emmy Awards, which will be held on June 20 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.
The leading network bagged 56 nominations, with
The Young and the Restless earning 17, including a nomination for best daytime drama. PBS came in second place with 50 nominations, while ABC, which will televise the event, received 39 nominations.
Cast members nominated on
The Young and the Restless include
Peter Bergman who is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Jack Abbott,
Michelle Stafford, who is up for the category of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Phyllis Summers Newman, and Emily O'Brien, who is nominated for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Jana Hawkes, just to name a few.
“It's still sinking in a little bit. This is the first time for me that something like this has happened, so I feel honored and it's great to be a part of such a great cast and know that so many of us have been nominated. It's just feels great. It's amazing. I feel euphoric today.” O'Brien said of her Emmy nomination.
To be considered for the race, O'Brien submitted the Taser scene where she put Colleen (Tammin Sursok) and Kevin (
Greg Rikaart) in the freezer. She considered this as her grand exit scene. She also presented a contrasting scene from the hospital to show a more vulnerable side that also involved Kevin.
Just like O'Brien, soap veteran Bergman still feels honored to be recognized despite the fact that he has been nominated many times before.
“It feels great. Somebody asked me yesterday how many nominations I have, and frankly, I think I'm right when I say 16 and I have loved every single one of them. Given this system, I'm very grateful I have a nomination this year,” he said.
