On Monday, fans got a glimpse of Hope Adams after years of absence on the soap canvas. Reprising her role as the blind heroine of
The Young and the Restless is Signy Coleman, who originally played the character from 1993 to 1997. Unfortunately, the 47-year-old actress won't be staying too long in Genoa City as she will soon face her dreadful fate.
Warning: May contain spoilers.
Hope was last seen taking a call from Nikki (
Melody Thomas Scott), who was looking for Victor (
Eric Braeden). At the time, Victor had been visiting Hope as he wrestled with his seizures. Since then, she hasn't been seen onscreen but has put in an off-screen phone call to Victor last year after Nick was presumed dead in the plane crash. She asked for help in regard to Victor Jr.'s disappearance. Victor took off in search of his son, but it has never come to light whether he found him or not.
In
The Young and the Restless' current storyline, Hope comes back as part of the plot that will see her and Victor's son, Victor Jr. (Chris Engen) materialize and become a part of Genoa City. Unfortunately, she'll only be seen for a week since she is slated to die on screen from pancreatic cancer.
"It's welcome back, now get the hell out of here," Coleman, who got the call to return while shopping in a New Jersey mall, told
TV Guide. "I was thrilled they want me to play Hope again, but so heartbroken they're killing her off that I just stood there crying in the middle of Barnes & Noble. She's the best character ever. But I'm also very grateful. They allowed me to bring her in, and they're allowing me to take her out."
On the other hand, there's a twist in this tragic event. Hope's son, Vic, doesn't know he's the spawn of Genoa City megalomaniac Victor Newman.
"Hope's last wish is that her son connect with his father," Coleman said of her character. "It's going to be dynamite."
