The Young and the Restless: January 23 Live Thoughts
It is morning on The Young and the Restless, and Lily (Christel Khalil) is surprised to find that Karen (Nia Peeples) has come over to the Winters residence so early.  "Oh," she realizes, "You spent the night."  Ouch.

Heather (Vail Bloom) has a meeting at the GCAC with her boss about Ji Min's murder case.  Across the dining room, Maggie (Tammy Lauren) and Paul (Doug Davidson) sit watching her.  Paul desperately wants to step up and become a good father, but he doesn't want to make things worse.

Jack (Peter Bergman) is back in Genoa City from the Bahamas.  He runs into Gloria (Judith Chapman) at the GCAC, where she is living now.  She tells him about her latest marriage with Jeffrey Bardwell, and she and Jack exchange barbs.

Michael (Christian LeBlanc) tells Victor (Eric Braeden) the bad news that they have no proof that pins Ji Min's death on Jack.

Gloria and Jack have a tense exchange about real estate.  Gloria wants him to know that she will get to live in the Abbott mansion once more.  He promises that it will only occur over his dead body.

Lily and Karen have a breakfast of bagels.  Neil (Kristoff St. John) breezes through on his way to the office.  Karen apologizes to Lily for spending the night without telling her and offers to take her out for a day at the spa.  Lily declines.

Michael asks Victor to consider pleading guilty due to self-defense, but Victor refuses because he insists on his innocence.  Michael says that it's not a question of his innocence, it's a matter of getting him free.  Clearly, Victor isn't happy with Michael, so he fires him.

Lily recalls all the arguments she has had recently with her father over her relationship with Cane.  She calls Cane and asks him to hang out before her first class.

At the GCAC, Heather asks Maggie to go over some evidence with her before the trial.  Paul and Maggie convince her to join them for a healthy breakfast, which she accepts.  But things immediately get awkward when Paul tries to give her some fatherly advice, which she throws back in his face.

At the coffeehouse, Gloria asks Kevin (Greg Rikaart) to hack into Jeffrey's phone records.  Jeffrey is still M.I.A., giving the two schemers time to plot their next move.

At home, Michael comes home to tell Lauren (Tracey Bregman) that he was just fired.  She tells him that he is under too much stress because of Gloria anyway.  She also says that it might be possible that Victor really is guilty, which is why he was having so much trouble coming up with a good defense for him.  She thinks that Victor is powerful and ruthless and shouldn't be underestimated, and that kind of thinking is exactly why Michael wanted to change his plea to guilty.

Cane (Daniel Goddard) comes over to Lily's and tells him that she thinks that her father is being a hypocrite, having his lady-friend cavorting around their apartment all the time.  They commiserate about how much of a drag it is to live with their parents, and Cane makes a comment about how they can move in together.  They start kissing, and Karen walks in on them, ruining the moment.  Recall that the same thing happened on a previous episode of The Young and the Restless, only at Cane's residence.

Victor orders Neil to find a new defense attorney.  Neil is shocked and tries to reason with him, but is immediately shushed.

Gloria and Kevin plan how to make it look like Jeffrey is trying to kill her, using Hitchcock movies as inspiration.  They decide that it's crucial to stage it in the Abbott mansion.

Nick (Joshua Morrow) runs into Jack at the GCAC and the two make plans to have pizza with Noah and Summer.

Karen apologizes for walking in on Lily and Cane.  After Cane leaves to go to work, Karen promises that she won't tattle on Lily to Neil.

Heather gets a call on her cell phone from someone who has information about Victor's case.  They plan to meet at the Crimson Lights coffeehouse.  They meet right away.  The guy says that he works as a valet at Emilio's restaurant and he saw Victor Newman being dropped off their on the night of the murder at exactly 8:00.  This really pokes a fairly sizable hole in Heather's case, doesn't it?  Kevin asks Heather who that was, but she blows it off as nobody.  Michael and Lauren come into the coffeehouse as well.  The witness needs a jump for his car, and after finding out that Heather was talking to him, Michael offers to jump his car for him.

Gloria espies Jeffrey (Ted Shackelford) at the hotel bar and demands to know where he has been.  Meanwhile, Kevin has succeeded in hacking into Jeffrey's cell phone records.  They find out that Jeffrey has made calls to the same number over and over and over.  Michael finds out that the guy is an eye witness proving that Victor is innocent and excitedly leaves to tell Victor the good news and to ask for his job back.

Next on The Young and the Restless: "Maryna" is back.
