Bryton McClure, Justin Torkildsen and Winsor Harmon aren't the only soap actors who are addicted to racing.
The Young and the Restless'
Daniel Goddard has also caught the racing fever as well and is having a hell of a good time.
Aside from working on
The Young and the Restless as Cane Ashby, the 36-year-old actor is also spending a lot of time on the tracks enjoying the velocity of the open-wheeler motor sport.
"Once you get bitten by the bug, it's over," Goddard told
Soap Opera Digest of his present go-kart addiction. "I'm going out to the track and racing every week. The go-karts I'm driving go about 90 mph, but when your butt's an inch-and-a-half off the ground and there's no suspension…so the car's completely stiff…you feel you're going 140. It's fantastic!"
Though the soap star takes pleasure in the intense adrenaline he gets from the sport, he says that his reason for indulging in racing goes beyond the rush. Goddard insists that "it's about the pursuit of human excellence” despite the extremities and the dangers that comes with the sport. And even if it's a competitive activity, it has become more of a “self-imposed challenge” and a form of meditation for the
Young and the Restless actor.
"It is competitive, but the ironic thing is you don't try to beat the other people," he explained. "You're trying to ride the perfect line at the fastest speed, so you're competing against yourself. Once you start competing against other people, you lose that focus and you start making mistakes.
"It's like meditation for me…I need that," he added. "It's a strong learning tool…It teaches responsibility and to be careful with your actions and impeccable with your choices."
Naturally, some accidents are bound to happen in this type of sport. Since getting hooked on go-karts, he has been in several risky situations and has even crashed a couple of times. Luckily for him, his wife Rachel understands his pastime.
