Vicci Martinez, the finalist for Team Cee Lo in the first season of NBC's The Voice
, released a new four-song EP today, in advance of a full album arriving in mid-June.
Entitled Come Along
, the EP is her first release since the end of The Voice
in June 2011. It includes the title track, which features Green contributing vocals and which they performed on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno
earlier this year.
She is the last season one finalist to release an album post-show, following Beverly McClellan ("Fear Nothing"), Javier Colon ("Come Through For You") and Dia Frampton ("Red").
Yet the EP is absolutely worth the wait. The four songs on the release ("Run Run Run," "I Can Love," "Hold Me Darlin" and "Come Along") showcase the Seattle native's talent for merging a smoky rock and roll sound with purposeful lyrics. Though her material is undeniably catchy, there's a truly positive energy underneath that isn't to be overlooked. She's not just writing a hook but she's also bringing a message. "Time flies, make a statement, take a stand," goes a repeated line from the title track. If there's a statement here, it's that Martinez is not only a talented vocalist, but a thoughtful songwriter as well.
Martinez and Green will perform "Come Along" on tonight's episode of The Voice
, airing at 9 PM ET/PT on NBC. As previously reported
, all four season one finalists will take the stage during tonight's results show.
The "Come Along" EP is now available on iTunes for less than $5, and Martinez's self-titled album
is scheduled to arrive on June 19. In support of the album release, Martinez has just announced she will play Los Angeles' historic Viper Room on the same day.
