The Vampire Diaries is just one week away from starting its third season, and the CW has a sexy and disturbing new promo sure to excite fans.

In the spot, we see Elena, Damon and Stefan in a Garden of Eden-esque setting as words like "Temptation" and "Seduction" pop up. That quickly turns to "Destruction" and the visual of Elena eating a blood-filled birthday cake. Yum?

What else can we tell from this promo for The Vampire Diaries season 3?

-"Hey, Elena. Happy birthday." I'd forgotten how much I adore Matt Davis as Alaric, but his half-hearted delivery of that line seals the deal. It's just so deliciously funny.

-Last season the sexy promo featured the three lead stars, but now Joseph Morgan is getting a very fast promotion. He's already an integral part of the promos, so I can only assume Klaus is going to be a huge part of the series from now on. Good for him, going from a few episodes last season to a co-star of the promo trailer.

-The oozing, bloody cake might be the most disgusting thing I've seen in a while, and I watch True Blood. Luckily there seems to be enough hot Caroline-Tyler action in the season premiere to wipe the putrid taste of blood cake out of my mouth.


The Vampire Diaries season 3 premieres Thursday, September 15 at 8pm on the CW.
