The Vampire Diaries is officially back and what better way to celebrate the first episode of the new year than to bring in new faces, new alliances and new supernatural adventures.  You've probably already heard a lot of spoilers and speculations about what's in store for "Bloodlines," the 11th episode of the series. After the jump, though, you'll find an even more detailed teaser of tonight's installment.

Spoiler Warning: Stop reading if you want to go into "Bloodlines" completely blind.

Last time we saw The Vampire Diaries, Alaric killed Logan but not before Logan told Damon of another way to open the tomb. Matt and Caroline confessed their feelings for each other; Tyler and Jeremy learned they have a lot more in common than they think; and Elena, after making love to Stefan, finally saw Katherine's picture and got into a horrific car accident. For a more detailed recap, check out this article.

Tonight's episode picks up with Elena still suffering from the injuries she sustained from her "car accident." The damage, however, is not as deep as the emotional wounds Stefan inflicted on her after learning the truth about Katherine. She goes off on a little adventure with Damon, specifically to Georgia where they bond in a way she didn't think they were capable of.

The main purpose of the trip, though, is Bree, played by guest star Gina Torres (Eli Stone), Damon's old flame whom he surprises and enlists for help to figure out how to open the mysterious tomb. Unfortunately, little does Damon know he's about to come face-to-face with someone who is determined to make him pay for his past mistakes.

Back in Mystic Falls, Stefan tries to convince Bonnie to embrace her inner witch and talks to Grams (guest star Jasmine Guy) in his effort to help Bonnie over come her fears. Meanwhile, Jeremy meets a girl named Anna, played by Malese Jow (Hannah Montana) while researching his history paper in a public library. Surprisingly, Anna has her own theories on the folklore of Mystic Falls.
