The Vampire Diaries
initially gave me the impression that I'm watching some vampire flick rip-off with a hint of Dawson's Creek
---no offense to Dawson's Creek
fans. Surprisingly, it got better and better and it's now one of the shows I'm looking forward to every Thursday night. However, we just might get that Dawson's Creek vibe again now that there are talks to bring in James Van Der Beek on the vampire series.
I have nothing against James Van Der Beek but I'm not really a fan of his shows so when Digital Spy
reported this news, I was a bit alarmed. The Vampire Diaries
is doing pretty well these days and I don't really want anything or anyone to spoil its momentum.
But I guess there's comfort in knowing that Van Der Beek, who played Dawson Leery on Kevin Williamson's teen drama series, will be working behind the cameras instead of acting, if and when his Vampire Diaries directorial debut pushes through.
When asked if Vampire Diaries
producer Williamson and Van Der Beek are still in touch, the former Dawson's
actor said, "Yeah I do talk to him actually - fairly regularly." He added that Williamson has not approached him for a part on The Vampire Diaries
, but confirmed that they have been "talking about maybe going down and directing one of the episodes".
For now, you can catch James Van Der Beek on NBC's Mercy
where he plays Dr. Liam West, the new womanizing ICU chief who harbors a dark secret.
