It's been a little over a month since Hector Williams was killed by a sniper as the team made its escape from Hezbollah during the rescue mission in Beirut in the episode “Five Brothers,” yet many fans are still saddened by this tragic incident that will fatefully change The Unit forever.

While many have expressed their frustrations on writers of The Unit for taking out one of the key players of the group, there are those who consider Williams' death a clever twist that confirms the authenticity of the show's depiction of the real military world.  After learning about fans' sentiments, Demore Barnes shares his own views about the death of his character and the commotion it caused on the internet.

Just like the viewers, Barnes was surprised to learn that his character was being killed off on the show he has been part of since 2006.  And although he was conscious of the fame and reputation of The Unit, he only became aware of Hector's massive popularity when his character died.

“My first response was one of confusion.  I think that's understandable since I don't think any of us saw it coming,” Barnes said during an interview with movieweb.com.

“Actually, I never really thought about it.  I never really thought about it from that standpoint.  I was very pleasantly surprised to be hearing that my departure caused such an extreme outcry. Apparently there were a lot of people who were very upset… That means I was doing my job [well],” he added.

For three years, the cast and the crew of the show have been like a family to Barnes.  Though all are saddened with the loss of his character, and the camaraderie that will be missed, everyone on the show recognizes the fact that The Unit is a military drama where death is something inevitable.

Meanwhile, Barnes has some parting words for all those fans still in mourning.

“I'd say to those who are very torn and saddened by the loss of Hector, and I guess in some ways the loss of Demore, or my portrayal of Hector, to not worry. Keep your ear to the ground, because I'm just getting started,” he said.
