Just in time for the New Year, The Tudors is coming to DVD.  Showtime and Paramount Home Entertainment have officially announced the release date of the much anticipated season 2 DVD of the historical fiction series created and entirely written by British screenwriter Michael Hirst.

The Tudors - The Complete Second Season will run at 542 minutes for 10 episodes and will come with widescreen video and audio available in English 5.1, English 2.0 and Spanish Mono, which is the same as the first season set.  As of this moment, the package art and extras aren't available yet so fans will have to stay tuned for more details about the DVD.

While the first season of The Tudors focused on King Henry VIII's period in office in which his effectiveness as a ruler is tested by international conflicts, political intrigue in his own court and the pressure of fathering a male heir, the sophomore season centered on Henry as the head of his own Church of England, leading to the expulsion of Katherine of Aragon as Anne becomes Henry's new Queen.

Season 2, which premiered on March 30, averaged a total of 912,000 viewers for its first episode alone, prompting the network to renew the series for an early third season order.  Natalie Dormer (Anne Boleyn), Maria Doyle Kennedy (Katherine of Aragon), Nick Dunning (Thomas Boleyn), Jeremy Northam (Thomas More), Jamie Thomas King (Thomas Wyatt), Hans Matheson (Thomas Cranmer), and Peter O'Toole (Pope Paul III) were among the notable starts featured last season.

Meanwhile, series regulars Jonathan Rhys Meyers (King Henry VIII), Henry Cavill (Charles Brandon), Anita Briem (Jane Seymour), James Frain (Thomas Cromwell), Sarah Bolger (Lady Mary), and Joanne King (Jane Boleyn) are bound to return for the third season of The Tudors, which is expected to air in 2009.
