In one interview, Rhys Meyers shared his thoughts about his character’s marriage to Catharine, stating that King Henry the VIII’s “relationship with Catharine of Aragon was very, very loving and it's very, very difficult for Henry to do this to her. And they were married for a very, very long time and had a really close emotional attachment to each other. And that's why, you know, you hurt the ones you love the most. Because it hurts you the most. And sometimes he seems like he doesn't like her but he has to - to get what he wants he has to make himself not like her against his better nature and his better judgment.”
A spokesperson for the Showtime network said that the second season will focus on King Henry the VIII’s marriage to Anne Boleyn, the birth of their child Elizabeth, and the conspiracy that led to the execution of Boleyn. The second installment to The Tudors series is set to start filming in the fall.
Aside from Rhys Meyers, who was made more popular by his Golden Globe- winning portrayal of Elvis Presley in the biographical film, Elvis, the current season of The Tudors also stars other English actors, namely Gabrielle Anwar, Sam Neill, Jeremy Northam, Callum Blue, Natalie Dormer, James Frain, Nick Dunning, Henry Czerny, Maria Doyle Kennedy and Kris Holden- Reid.
