The CW is going to be very full next season. The network previously
renewed four shows for next season and just picked up five new ones, now
comes news that three more shows have been renewed while two have been axed.
Gossip Girl was renewed for a sixth and final season, though it will only run for 10 or 11 episodes. Freshman drama
Hart of Dixie is the only freshman show to get a second seasons while
Nikita was renewed for season 3. Meanwhile,
Ringer and The Secret Circle were both canceled, making them the sole scripted casualties of the CW's current season (not counting
One Tree Hill).
CW Orders Carrie Diaries, Arrow and 3 More New Shows>>The renewals for these three shows follow pick-ups for
The Vampire Diaries,
Supernatural,
90210 and
America's Next Top Model. Along with the five new shows on tap, that's 12 shows to fill 10 hours of programming, so some will inevitably be pushed to mid-season.
Hart of Dixie started slowly, but stayed surprisingly strong throughout its freshman year (and will make a good partner for the network's new medical drama,
First Cut).
Ringer's cancellation is not a big surprise as the show had incredibly low ratings.
The Secret Circle had decent ratings after
The Vampire Diaries, but never seemed to catch on.
The CW will unveil its complete 2012-2013 lineup next week.
