Exclusive Interview: Cohutta Lee of 'The Real World: Sydney'
Thursday, September 13, 2007

Cohutta Lee is a good ol' Southern boy on The Real World: Sydney.  He was born and raised in Georgia and had never been outside the United States before filming.  So far this season, his storyline has mostly revolved around his budding romance with roommate Kelly Anne Judd.  Fellow roommate Isaac Stout has tried repeatedly to warn Cohutta against hooking up with a roommate but on last night's episode, he ignored all the advice and did it anyway.  Yesterday, Cohutta took a few minutes to chat with BuddyTV about his time in Sydney and what he likes so much about Kelly Anne.

Below, you will find the complete transcript and mp3 of the interview.

Hi everybody, this is Gina from Buddy TV, and I’m talking to one of the cast members from Real World: Sydney, Cohutta. Cohutta, how are you doing?

I’m doing good, Gina. How are you doing?

I’m good. I hear everybody butchers your name, that’s got to be frustrating.

Yes, it’s kind of aggravating.

Well, I think the fact that you have an original name now helps you, because Real World cast members have some crazy names.

It is. It's just a funny story, it’s all over the internet, these websites. People are like, they write, "WTF Cohutta?" I was named after the Cohutta mountains up here in North Georgia, is beautiful, just a humongous wilderness area. You know, pretty much where I was raised. And I was like, “They just think it’s some kind of made-up word.” But really it’s not, it actually does mean something.

Good, I’m glad we got to the bottom of that. Do you read a lot of the websites on what people say about you and the other cast members, or do you try to stay away from that?

I kind of get a kick out of the other websites. If I’m up at night, I tell myself not to, and everybody else tells me not to, but hell. I can't help it, I gotta browse a little bit, and see what everybody else thinks. So I guess I do, I check it out. I’m getting pretty good feedback, about for every 20 comments, I have maybe two or three just retarded people comment.

Yeah, I was gonna say you can rest assured, I think you’re pretty well-liked this season so far.

I'm not gonna lie, I had my moments, it was nothing just super bad. I hope that when that does take place and it airs, that people understand. You know, he's a good guy, he just had a little hiccup here and there.

So you have your less than perfect moments.

Yeah, unfortunately.

Now before you filmed Real World: Sydney, had you traveled a lot outside of Georgia?

Actually, I’ve been all the way from Georgia to western Montana in a pickup truck. I’ve been to California, I’ve been all over the southeast, traveled around. I’ve covered a lot of ground on asphalt but as far as flying here or there or other countries and stuff, I had yet to had done that.

Did Australia exceed your expectations?

I wish I’d gotten to see a little bit more of it.  If I could go back over there, I would really hit the road, buy me a truck.  If I could ever had got out of that god-dang city on the wrong side of the road, it's crazy and the people, man, and got out somewhere I could actually drive down the road, I would like to just took off across Australia.

Well, right now the show seems to be focusing on your blooming relationship with Kelly Anne. What is it about her that attracted you to her?

Her rear end is absolutely ruthless but that's just at first sight.  That's my immediate... by looking at the girl, I like brown eyes and that tail, she's got a derrier, I'm talking.

And personality-wise, do you guys have a lot of things in common?

Yes and no, kind of. We’re different personalities, it kind of took a while on the show for me, for her to come around and for us to get to talk a little bit, and it was kind of interesting getting there and meeting everybody. Everybody getting to know each other, and that kind of thing.  And after the storm died down a little bit. I got her to herself, and we talked, kind of had a little few little deep and meaningful conversations there. Kind of, I think is kind of what she is made up of, and the person that she was. It kind of attracted me to her.

Have you ever seen as much drama or fighting as you did in The Real World house? ’cause it can get pretty crazy there.

No, what amazes me in is, I mean in a week, I could get along with Satan for a week if I had to, you know. It was, I’m not kidding, it was a matter of hours people in that house were arguing. And I was thinking, you know, “What the hell is wrong with you people?”

Did you try to be the one who remains calm in those situations?

Well, I kind of just think it’s funny. I mean, it’s just over stupid stuff. You know, over the dumbest stuff, and I just had it and need to go somewhere and do something. You’ll see a lot of me shooting pool by myself.

What’s life been like since the show started airing? Have you been recognized a lot?

Yeah. I get, really I mean, I guess I’ve been getting good feedback anywhere I go really in the country. Everywhere I’ve went, it’s overwhelming. People want pictures and signing stuff, and making me talk to people on their phones and to me, I mean, I don’t see how it can get to a point that it bothers people.  To me, it's just flattering.  People who don't even know you just wanna be your friend.  The way I see it, a man can't have enough friends.  So, I'm all about taking pictures, and I'll take all kinds.  I'll do serious faces, goofy faces, serious pictures, whatever you want.  You let me know, we'll take pictures for hours.  It don't bother me a bit.

Do you think that maybe we might see more of you on MTV? I know they do a lot of season challenges. Is that something you’d be interested in doing?

It’s possible. I just have to see what Cohutta’s got going on at this point. You never can tell, I hate to promise to everybody out there that I'm gonna be on a challenge, but if I’ve got some free time, I might.

Well, I hope we do see you there, a new episode of The Real World airs tonight. Cohutta, thanks for your time.

Thank you, ma'am.
