Dunbar Flinn of The Real World: SydneyGiven the popularity of MTV's long-running reality series, The Real World, it is not unusual for cast members to emerge from the series with newfound celebrity.  However, Dunbar Flinn, one of the seven people on the show's current edition, The Real World: Sydney, said that becoming a big television celebrity was the least of his concerns when he tried out for the series.

"I didn't do this to become a celebrity. I did it because it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," Flinn told the Clarion Ledger.  “It's going to be interesting with 20 million people watching it.”

Still, he has no regrets about joining the show, even if it meant having to put his studies on hold.  Flinn, a finance and real estate major, was in class when he found out auditions were being held for The Real World: Sydney.

"I saw the announcement in the school newspaper the day before.  I was in a real-estate law class at night.  I was bored out of my mind.  Then I looked down and saw it on the floor,” Flinn told the Clarion Ledger.  “I got on the audition list, but it was fully unexpected that I would get on the show.”

As unexpected as it was, Flinn believes that his fun personality and strong temper are what convinced the producers to include him in the cast.

"I think I'm a Type A personality, and they need as many of those as possible," he said.  "They know I like to have a good time and have a strong work ethic.  I'm a Southerner with a pretty neat perspective.  But I'm also aggressive, quick to get very, very angry.  I guess they were hoping I'd get on the show and beat up somebody.”

Although Flinn did not get involved in any altercation on the series, he did admit to having “yelled at a few people.”  He also said that though he developed a good relationship with the other male cast members, the women seemed very intent on creating a lot of drama on the The Real World: Sydney.

"You're throwing together a bunch of personalities designed to conflict with each other," Flinn said.  "The environment is not really hostile, but it's not your comfort zone.”
