Danielle Staub's dirty laundry may have been exposed, but she's making no apologies for her shady past. The most controversial cast member of The Real Housewives of New Jersey is presently the subject of the media, not for her lavish lifestyle as portrayed on TV, but for her being arrested in 1986 on charges of extortion, kidnapping and drug possession, among others.

In a Nightline interview, which aired Monday night, Danielle refused to address the specifics of her case but has shed light on how she struggled in the past.

"I'm just going to say I am a work in progress," the New Jersey star said. "If people have issues with me, I am not going to apologize for [it]. That's their problem. But I am, have been, a loner my whole life. And I'm OK. I'm still around."

Danielle, a former model turned single mother, is the subject of her ex-husband's autobiography, Cop Without a Badge, which features a mug shot of Danielle from 1986 and accuses her of several crimes. Many critics have bashed Danielle for the negative publicity she's garnering, including housewives from Bravos' other franchise, specifically The Real Housewives of New York especially since she could have refused to go on a reality TV series to shield her two children from the controversy.

In spite of everything, Danielle still has no regrets on joining The Real Housewives of New Jersey.

"I don't regret doing it," she said. "Any journey there's a beginning, a middle and end, and my journey and my life are not over. I'm on a journey."

Meanwhile, Danielle tries to prove that she is a fit parent after her husband left her.

Fans can catch Danielle Staub on the season finale of The Real Housewives of New Jersey at 10pm next Tuesday, June 16 on Bravo.
