Last night on
The Real Housewives of DC, Michaele compared herself to Cinderella. She sees herself as Cinderella because Lynda, Cat, and Mary are picking on her like the wicked stepmother and the evil stepsisters. But really Michaele is nothing like Cinderella, because Cinderella was forced to do heavy manual labor for her step-relatives. Cinderella didn't own a winery or marry a squatty nincompoop. Cinderella did sneak into that ball at the fancy house, though . . . Anyway, regardless of whether woodland creatures help Michaele get dressed in the morning, it got me thinking about comparisons. Also, some of last night's moments seemed right out of the Real Housewives playbook. Here's an examination of what shows
The Real Housewives of DC is like (and how it's different).
Top Chef: DC
RHoDC is like it because: it's set in DC, and is arguably one of the weaker seasons in the series.
RHoDC is not like it because: it just follows rich people around and they don't compete with any marketable skill set.
The Real Housewives of New Jersey
RHoDC is like it because: people get into arguments over social networking tools like Facebook and there is a dispute between an adult and a teen. Also, most of the Housewives seem to be ganging up on one Housewife. And it's all about who is invited to what parties.
RHoDC is not like it because: the ladies of DC know how to walk away from an argument. They usually handle themselves with a modicum of class and Stacie said "you can think what you want about someone but you don't say it to their face."
The Cosby Show
RHoDC is like it because: of Tareq's sweater.
RHoDC is not like it because: The Cosby Show is a values-based family sitcom. And Stacie is quicker to turn something into a race issue than the Cosbys ever were.
Supernanny
RHoDC is like it because: it's got a British woman who thinks she knows best but sometimes comes off as a bitch to people.
RHoDC is not like it because: Supernanny means well, and usually does know best.
House Hunters
RHoDC is like it because: Lynda is looking for a house in Virginia.
RHoDC is not like it because: She bought a house before we even knew it. There was no suspense at all over which one she was going to choose.
Maybe I should have used The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency for comparison: it's about a scary looking lady who runs a modeling agency.
