Everything's just going to escalate as The Last Ship nears its season finale, and TNT brought the cast and executive producers to San Diego Comic-Con this year to preview what's yet to come.

Series stars Adam Baldwin and Charles Parnell and showrunners Hank Steinberg and Steven Kane spoke to reporters about their characters, the finale, season 2 and more.

Check out the video interviews with Adam Baldwin and Hank Steinberg:

Highlights from the interview:

  • Will Tom and Mike butt heads? "They're both leaders, and they both have respect for each other," Baldwin said, but "the captain has the final say."
  • Steinberg admitted they had originally thought of having Mike be "a perpetual obstacle to Chandler," but it seemed like an easy, obvious choice. Instead, "it's much more interesting to have conflict between people that really care about each other."
  • When it comes to all things military, Baldwin said they really learned "through osmosis" as "flies on the wall."
  • They turned to technical advisors to make sure things were technically accurate.
  • Baldwin called his character "a catalyst for the decision-making process" and said "he's there to question" the captain "without fear of insubordination" if necessary. "I support the captain until he crosses a line."
  • Steinberg teased the rest of the season, including the race against the clock for the vaccine, the Russians chasing them and more.
  • Each episode moves toward the goal of finding the cure, but each brings its own set of challenges.

Check out the video interviews with Charles Parnell and Steven Kane:

Highlights from the interview:

  • Kane teased that the end of The Last Ship season 1 "leaves us in a very interesting place." There's a lot to come back to in season 2.
  • Parnell added, "Towards the end of the season, things do get more complicated, and the internal tension of the crew ramps up and you will meet some new people."
  • Kane recalled something Mitra had said earlier in the day: "The uniforms start to disappear and the people start to emerge."
  • Kane admitted that with all the action in the beginning of the series, it was hard to learn characters' names, but that's going to change and people will evolve "in a very organic way."
  • "The threats start to change and expand."
  • They have the luxury of writing all the episodes at the same time.
  • They have a plan for season 2, but they're open to adapting to surprises.
  • Parnell teased that you'll see "vulnerability" in his character.
  • Kane stressed that the show is not about a mutiny at some point, though it is logical for the characters to ask questions and have doubts.

The Last Ship season 1 airs Sundays at 9pm on TNT.
