He was educated in Syracuse University, where he earned a degree in Speech and Drama. His stage debut was in 1951's The Silver Whistle. In 1954 he married his wife Anne Meara and soon made a comedy show with her, entitled Stiller and Meara. The two then became regulars on the Ed Sullivan Show. After that stint Stiller continued performing and writing through the decades and appeared as guest on some television shows like the Ritz. He also appeared in Seinfeld as George Constanza's father. He currently stars in the
King of Queens , another comedy show.
Arthur Spooner is played by Jerry Stiller on the comedy series
The King of Queens . He plays father to Carrie Heffernan, a classic oddball of the family. He had accidentally set fire his own home, thus forcing him to live with his daughter and her husband. He usually creates unreasonable outbursts and chaos in the household through his antics, craziness and obnoxious behavior. He rarely leaves his daughter and her husband Doug alone, giving them a lot of trouble having time for themselves. He is often referred to "the old man" by Doug's friends.
