It’s that time of year again: time for the Oscars, the Super Bowl of the entertainment world! This year a mix of historical drama (
The Reader, Frost/Nixon, Milk), modern melodrama (
Slumdog Millionaire, The Wrestler) and fantasy (
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) dominated the nominations.

Conclusion: This one seems like a no-brainer, even though all the nominees are strong, especially Brolin’s gripping performance in
Milk. And it’s always encouraging (and rare) to see superior comedic performances honored, like Downey’s role in
Tropic Thunder. But this one belongs to Heath Ledger. His sinister Joker in
The Dark Knight would deserve it regardless, and the award will serve as a tribute to the talent and legacy of a life cut too short.
