It's another blast with the past with
The Class actor
Sean Maguire, who has been slated to star in Comedy Central's new show,
Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire. The new show will be the network's first shot into the medieval comedy genre, and is scheduled to premiere in the first months of 2009.
Being shot in Hungary,
Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire features Maguire as the reluctant hero, Krod Mandoon, a sensitive but clueless freedom fighter. The show tackles his misadventures in the “long ago past,” filled with outrageous comedic feats. In a time of darkness, dungeons and barbarians, Krod Mandoon becomes the age's last hope in the struggle against the evil Dongalor. With the death of Arcadius, Krod's mentor, the hero must rely on no one but himself and his worrisome hairline.
Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire is a project being developed and co-produced by Comedy Central and MRC. It was written by Peter Knight, who is also credited as the show's producer. Joining him in producing the show are Brad Johnson, Jimmy Mulville and Mario Stylianides.
The live-action series will be the next big step for Sean Maguire, who became known for his previous roles in films like
LA Blues and the recent spoof comedy
Meet the Spartans. His career has allowed him to star on series like the ensemble CBS comedy
The Class, the BBC drama
Dangerfield and on the comedy
Eve.
Krod Mandoon is one of the Comedy Central's new array of shows, set to boost the network's success in the following year. “This year's development slate features an incredibly diverse and versatile array of talent and concepts,” said Lauren Corrao, president of the network's original programming division. Comedy Central has indeed generated numerous audiences from its shows, marking its status as the one and only all-comedy network around.
