This week on
The Biggest Loser, there was no blindside, no surprise elimination.
Trent asked his blue team to vote him out after they lost the weigh in by one pound. His move probably saved Dan from being the next one to go home since his mother was sent home the week before. Trent stands by his decision, feeling like it was his time to go and he would leave his partner, Roger, in a good position. Today, he spoke to BuddyTV about his time on the show, how he managed to stay away from gameplay and manipulation, and training for the upcoming live finale.
Below, you will find the complete transcript and mp3 of the interview.
Hey everybody, this is Gina from BuddyTV, and today I'm talking to Trent from The Biggest Loser. Whose idea was it to sign up for The Biggest Loser? Was it yours or was it Roger's?
Roger Schultz. It was his big idea.
Is this something you guys do, do you guys go on a lot of fun adventures together?
You know, no. Unfortunately, because he lives in Alabama and I live in New York, we only get together occasionally for football reunions or football games. No, we don't do crazy wild things like this, although we did make a pact while we were together that we'll make it kind of an annual thing that we'll get together and spend time together still.
Did he really have to convince you to do the show, or were you right on board from the beginning?
When he initially asked me, I knew of the show but I wasn't really that familiar with it. Obviously, I did some research, and I had to talk to my wife about doing the audition and, if we were to make it on to the show, leaving her and my son. When he told me about it I thought it was interesting, but then when I was able to watch a few of season 3, I said, "Wow, this would be neat." It would be a great opportunity for both of us to just go away and really be able to focus in on us and train. At least start the process of weight loss while we were there.
The contestants this season are pretty heavy on the game play. Were you prepared for how sneaky and how manipulative contestants can be sometimes?
No. My mindset was to get healthy, and I was going in with the mindset of learning as much as I could, you know, learning is obviously the missing link for me. Then working my butt off to lose as much weight as I could. Obviously, Roger and I knew we were gonna be threats going into the competition. I mean, we weighed in at 795 pounds. We wanted to not ruffle any feathers, work as hard as we could, and kind of fly under the radar so we could spend that valuable time on the ranch.
What was your part in Jackie's elimination? Was this all Mark and Jay's plan to get rid of her?
No, Roger and I had talked about getting her out of the game. He had been playing the game as soon as we got out of the vans and walked on to the ranch. She had a lot of things brewing, a lot of alliances, and she thought she was just kind of running things.
Did you get along with your blue team once you guys all became part of Bob's team?
We did, we did. It was just a matter of making Dan feel comfortable. Obviously he felt betrayed by Mark and Jay. Roger and I have a good relationship with Dan, and it was just a matter of bringing him on board and then letting him know that we're the blue team, we want to stay as strong as we can and stay together. It worked out pretty good.
You got the opportunity to work with both trainers this season. Was there something about Bob that worked better for you in terms of his style?
Yeah, Bob's style is a lot like mine, so I relate well with Bob. I'm so happy that things worked out the way that they did, because it was good seeing Bob and I was excited to be able to train with him and to learn from him. Just his style was more fitting of me.
Once you leave the show, can you talk to the other contestants for support, or are you just as surprised when you see them at the finale what progress they've made?
Really it's a surprise. We're not supposed to be in contact, so I won't know anything until we see each other at the finale.
How goes the preparation for you? What have you been doing every day to get ready for it?
Oh, I am training. I haven't gone back to work yet, so I'm staying on leave for about another week or so. I want to stay as close to the training regimen that I had on the ranch. I want to try and keep as close to that as I can before I have to throw in that nine to five and lose those hours. Things are going well, I'm staying true to that. I'm training about five to six hours a day, and I'm staying after it.
Great. You're a really great guy and we can't wait to see you at the live finale. I just wanted to thank you so much.
Thank you.
