It's down to four men competing for Bachelorette Jillian's heart, and ABC has two preview clips teasing tonight's episode, which airs from 8 to 10 PM and follows the final four and Jill to Barcelona, Spain.
She certainly has a diverse bunch on her hands: Kiptyn the sweet surfer dude, Reid the analytical real estate agent, Ed the indecisive tech consultant, and Wes... what is Wes, exactly? (Besides a "musician" and a "lightning rod for female scorn," of course.)
Tonight, with hope, we will finally find out... But, judging from the clips themselves, let's not collectively hold our breaths or anything.
Clip One: Sneak Peek!
Things to notice:
- (Lack of) Chemistry. Girlfriend or no, WES IS NOT INTO JILLIAN. That much is clear from this clip alone! When you ask a guy why he doesn't want to kiss you, and he responds with a sullen "I understand," you're playing 2nd (or 3rd or 4th...) fiddle to something, whether it's another girl, his career, or the fact that he's just not feeling it. At this point, the reason for the lack of chemistry is less important than the result, which (hopefully) will be a lack of rose-giving to Wes!
-
"I don't feel like I need to talk about that." Can you really blame the guy, when everything he says gets edited out of context (see clip below)? Well, yeah. If I know you, you probably still hate his guts. But you can also probably understand why, guilty or no, Wes is sick and tired of having the same conversation over and over. Because I'm sick of watching it.
- The verbal slip. What does it mean that he accidentally says "girlfriend" instead of "ex-girlfriend"? A simple slip of the tongue? A sign that Wes is still living in the past? A real Freudian admission of guilt? You decide. Really. Because I have no idea. What I DO know is that Wes is nowhere near admitting that he's attached, as Clip Two would have us believe...
Clip Two:
Things to notice:- Ed, "the man she loved and lost"? More like "the man she thought could maybe be a good match for her but who mysteriously left for vague work-related reasons only to return a couple weeks later with a very self-entitled speech about his change of heart." But I guess that doesn't sound as catchy in a promo.
- "Jillian will finally get to the heartbreaking truth... 'that I have a girlfriend.' " If there's a heartbreaking truth she'll discover, it's that she dumped Michael and Jesse for a guy who, if he doesn't have a girlfriend, probably WISHES he did, so he didn't have to defend himself over and over to a girl he clearly no longer digs. And so he didn't have to watch promos of ABC editing the "I still can't believe he told you..." off the front of his sentences.
- "The most surprising proposal in Bachelorette history." Could this mean that ANOTHER of the eliminated men comes back to ask for Jillian's hand? Or maybe someone who WILL get eliminated soon? I really have no idea. But I hope this lofty promise of a real surprise actually holds up
. After the season we've had, the Bachelorette audience deserves a real, romantic nail biter.
