On last night's season finale of The Bachelor
, Matt Grant
got down on one knee and proposed to Shayne Lamas
. He presented her with a Tacori platinum and diamond ring, valued at $60,000. Minutes earlier, he said goodbye to Chelsea Wanstrath
, after telling her that he could not picture a life with her. Chelsea kept it together, for the most part, but took a shot at Shayne before she left, calling her "the fakest person in the house". Matt had already made up his mind, though, and popped the question to a very happy Shayne. Today, the happy couple participated in a conference call, filling in the press about where they're going to live, how they dealt with watching everything on television, and beating the odds as a couple!
The call opened with a question about whether or not Matt would like to act now that he's marrying into a theatrical family. "I spoke to Lorenzo recently and we're looking forward to doing Renegade 2, as father and son-in-law," Matt joked. He first met Shayne's father during the hometown date episode of The Bachelor
. "My father is very protective," Shayne said. "He has 3 little girls and his older daughter. He fell in love with Matt just like I did and welcomes him into our familly with open arms."
On every call that Matt has done this season, he has been asked about beating The Bachelor
odds, and making his relationship work. Shayne jumped in, assuring everyone that they were in it for the long haul. "First of all, we've already been together. They are not in our relationship or have anything to diwth our relationship. We're in it til the end. We're engaged and we're going to get married," she said. When asked about their living arrangements, she said, "We love both [places]. He has family in London, I have family in L.A. We'll have homes in both [countries]."
Matt and Shayne admitted to watching a few episodes of the show together, which was a bad idea but the two decided to be up front with each other. "Matt and I, from the beginning, had a very open and honest relationship," she said. "That night of our engagement, we sat on the balcony and I said, 'Okay you have to tell me everything'. I wanted to hear the honesty, whether I liked it or not."
There was much speculation this season as to whether or not Shayne had the proper intentions when coming on the show. "I was pretty skeptical," Matt told BuddyTV. "The thing that hit me the most when we went to the winery in California, when the cameras were off, was her sense of humor and how great her laugh was." He was convinced soon after that that she was there, only for him, which made him the happiest he's ever been.
Shayne admitted to BuddyTV that was hurt when Chelsea called her fake on the season finale. "I was caught off guard, to be honest with you. I have nothing against Chelsea. We spoke a few times, not like we became best friends, but we had nothing against each other," she said. "She lost the man she fell in love with. I completely understand and that's the way she dealt with it. I'm sorry it had to be at my expense but I wish her the very best. I hope she's happy."
Shayne and Matt have every intention of making it to the altar but have a lot of preparations to make first before they announce an official date. There was no word if ABC had plans to air the special day.
