One Bachelor Success Story

With the finale for this season of The Bachelor: An Officer and a Gentleman coming soon (the last episode will air May 21st), there continues to be a lot of chatter around the track record of the show.  So far, the program hasn't exactly been a rousing success when it comes to finding lasting love for its Bachelors.  Weird, isn't it?  You would think it would be easier to find your soulmate from a group hand-picked by a television network for the purpose of creating entertaining television.

Trista Rehn - now Sutter - might not have any lasting romantic success herself during her time on The Bachelor.  But her popularity on that show led to her landing her own series - The Bachelorette - where she met Ryan Sutter.  The two married in a lavish (televised, of course) ceremony in December of 2003, and seem to continue to be going strong, announcing a new happy development in recent months.

Trista and Ryan are expecting their first child, due sometime in August of this year.  They've decided to wait to find out the gender of the child, and Trista is hopefully past the "horrendous morning sickness" she was suffering with during the early weeks of the pregnancy.  The parents-to-be have some of the usual first-time parent jitters, with Ryan admitting "I'm worried about car seats and stuff. You're bringing this little vulnerable life into this world, and you want to keep him or her safe."

The pair has, on occasion, returned to the entertainment world after finding love on their spin-off from The Bachelor.  There was, of course, that televised wedding ceremony, which, with over 20 million viewers, was one of the most-watched reality programs.  They also participated in a show for the Travel Channel related to honeymoons.  Trista was also a star on the first season of Dancing with the Stars.  Despite her background as a dancer for the Miami Heat, she was the first celeb cut from that season.

For the most part, however, the two appear to have settled into a relatively low-key life post-reality show stardom.  The two live in Eagle County, Colorado, and Ryan is a firefighter for the town of Vail.  Trista has taken on a few other ventures beyond reality television, from appearing in a commercial and music video, to writing a column for Redbook, to working with custom purse designs.  The two appear to be thrilled at the prospect of their new family addition and seem dedicated to this match made in reality television.

Whether or not Andy Baldwin, in his quest for love on The Bachelor: An Officer and a Gentleman, has such happy results remains to be seen.  And if viewers will continue to be as invested in a show that so rarely results is a true happy ending will also be in question.  Maybe ABC should give the ladies a few more shots as The Bachelorette and see if that track record is any more successful.
