CBS has renewed
The Amazing Race for a 13th season. There has seemingly always been uncertainty regarding the future of
The Amazing Race, the series always being on the verge of cancellation. The series' 12th season was originally intended to air in early 2008, but when
Viva Laughlin stunk up the joint, CBS quickly plugged
Race into their Sunday at 8pm time slot. The series averaged around 12 million viewers for season 12, in large part thanks to its NFL football lead-in.

I'm requesting to bring back Marianna & Julia, Nate & Jen, Shana & Jennifer, and Nick & Don. Oh, no, no, no...
The Amazing Race has a long pre-production schedule. Simply planning the logistics of each Race and having all the challenges and tasks ready in each different locale has to take weeks. When you account for the actual Race and the painful amount of editing, the earliest
The Amazing Race 13 could reach air would probably be mid-to-late Spring. The impetus for the early renewal by CBS is surely connected to the writers' strike, which now has no apparent end in sight. You have to assume their intention is to air it prior to summer.
With
The Amazing Race 13 ready to go forward, it's time to re-open the casting rumor mills once again. CBS, since it's been known to cross-pollinate its reality series, is always hearing from fans which of their favorite reality stars they want back on the air. There is a current on line petition to bring on Eric and Jessica from
Big Brother 8 on
The Amazing Race as a team. I wouldn't mind that team at all. Other possibilities are Dick and
Daniele Donato, Jen and Nick, and Will and Boogie, all from
Big Brother.
