FOX released their full 2009 mid-season schedule today. A great many of you will be disappointed with what has been done. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
, a series who many thought would keep its time-slot come January and reap the benefits of being the lead-in for 24
, will be moved to Fridays, beginning February 13. As savvy TV viewers know, Fridays are where TV shows go to die. If a network moves you from mid-week to Friday, it is a death sentence. In addition, Terminator
will be joined on Friday nights by the new Joss Whedon series Dollhouse
. After Firefly
, you'd think that FOX would be done screwing with Whedon and his fans. Apparently not. It will be a major, major upset if Dollhouse
succeeds on Friday nights.
OK. Let's get the nitty gritty out of the way before we go to the commentary (i.e. “whining”):
On January 12, 24
will air its second set of double episodes. On January 19, 24
will settle into its 9pm time slot for the rest of the season, and will benefit from a new high-profile lead-in: House
, starting the 19th, will air on Mondays at 8pm.
will air a two-hour premiere on January 13, but starting the next week, it will apparently only air for one hour. This will change later in the season, once they get to the finalists, but starting on January 20, Fringe
will air at 9pm for an undisclosed length of time.
Another two-hour American Idol
premiere will air on the 14th of January. The next week, it will be followed a new series called Lie to Me
, which I will discuss below.
at 8pm, starting January 15. Kitchen Nightmares
will be in the 9pm slot for two weeks, than switch over to Hell's Kitchen
Starting on February 13, Terminator
at 8pm and Dollhouse
I cannot stress this enough. FOX has, barring a miracle, murdered Dollhouse
, a new series starring Eliza Dushku and run by Joss Whedon. This is an affront to mankind. There were a number of places they could have put Dollhouse
. Before 24
, for one, would have been a cool spot. However, the most obvious choice is on Wednesday, after American Idol
, at 9pm. Instead, FOX is going with a new series called Lie to Me
in that time slot. Lie to Me
is going to be a stupid show. Guaranteed. It's a crime procedural about a guy (Tim Roth) who reads people movements and facial expressions, and is thus able to deduce guilt or innocence. He's a human lie detector. We're one step closer to The Dog Whisperer
moving to Friday is also disappointing, but I can't blame FOX. They've given the series enough chances to thrive and the ratings simply haven't been there.
What do you think of the schedule? Does Dollhouse
have any chance at survival? Is Terminator
in its way out?
