'Terminator' Conference Call with Josh Friedman and Lena Headey

This morning, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles creator and show runner Josh Friedman joined star Lena Headey in a media conference call to talk about the upcoming season of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.  The series picks up after a too-brief nine episode first season, and fan anticipation is high.  The duo discussed what we can expect from season two, what direction some of the plot lines are going, and where Terminator is headed thematically.  Highlights from the conference call can be found below.

Lena thinks that Sarah, this season, is going to start taking a little bit of a back seat to John, in terms of being pro-active in her plight.  She says this new season is about Sarah losing control of everything around her.  Even though her character is in the title of the series, Lena doesn't feel incredibly safe about her character staying alive throughout the series.

As it was announced at Comic-Con, there will be a major character death at some point in season 2.

Shirley Manson's character is not what Josh considers totally evil, even with her plan to grow the Turk.

We've seen just about the last of John Connor going to class in high school.

The Sarah-cancer plot line will reemerge this season, but not in a completely oblique way.

Sarah doesn't think there will be much development romantically with Derek Reese, but with Charlie it is an open door.

Agent Ellison is on a quest to find out why he's involved with these terminators.  He wants to know what's going on.  However, that doesn't mean he'll be interacting with the Connor crew.

The religious aspect (Sarah as Mary, John as Jesus) has always been in the Terminator franchise, according to Friedman, and it's something that he continues to explore in season 2.

The Sarah-John relationship is the central relationship of the series, and it will continue to be, no matter how much that relationship changes.

When a death comes along, as it will in season 2, it's purely for storytelling reasons.  Friedman hates telling someone that their character is going to die.  The actor whose character will be killed has now been informed.

Lena thinks that Sara's anger does come from the situation she's in, and that her son is keeping her from living a normal life, and the fact that the man she loved died.

Josh considers the show more of a family drama than an action show.  He doesn't mind when FOX tells him to scale down an episode.

Josh had known Shirley Manson for years, Shirley being a friend of Josh's wife.  They had joked about her coming onto the show for an episode, but it turned into something much bigger.

We will be seeing more of the future in season 2, and will take place similarly to how it did in the “Dungeons and Dragons” episode from last year.

Will Sarah and Charlie hook up in season 2?
