is planning a big rollout of its new and returning shows in January,
using the power of the NFL playoffs to help boost its newest drama.
will return with its 13th season (or XIII, as they're calling it) with a two-night, four-hour premiere. The first auditions with the judging panel of Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick, Jr. will air Wednesday, January 15 and Thursday, January 16 at 8pm. Thursday episodes will slim down to a single hour the next week.
Also, in the spring, the Idol results shows will allegedly be cut down to a half-hour, Thursdays at 8pm, with the new comedy Surviving Jack taking over at 8:30pm for eight weeks.I say allegedly because FOX has announced the results shows being cut to 30 minutes in the past (in 2005 and 2010), then later changed their minds, so I'm doubtful that it will stick. Surviving Jack stars Law and Order: SVU's Christopher Meloni.
The second season of Kevin Bacon's serial killer drama The Following begins Monday, January 20 at 9pm, preceded by the first season finale of the breakout hit Sleepy Hollow at 8pm. The second season sees Ryan Hardy (Bacon) dealing with a new murder spree that makes him suspect Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) is still involved. It will also include many new cast additions, like Connie Nielsen (Boss), Jessica Stroup (90210) and Sam Underwood (who played a budding serial killer on Dexter's final season and Dana's troubled boyfriend on Homeland0.
Finally, the new Greg Kinnear drama Rake (which is basically House as a lawyer) will get a special launch Sunday, January 19 at 10pm following the NFC championship game. That will lead in to its regular time slot, Thursdays at 9pm following American Idol, starting January 23.
As previously reported, the new military comedy Enlisted will now premiere Friday, January 10 at 9:30pm, joining the lineup of Bones and Raising Hope. Glee will take a hiatus until the spring.
FOX also has Alexis Bledel and Jason Ritter's romantic comedy Us and Them, which will premiere sometime in the spring.
The network's Tuesday comedy lineup will, surprisingly, stay intact, and Almost Human will continue Mondays at 8pm starting January 27.
