The CW will
officially announce its 2013-2014 schedule on Thursday, May 16, but it
already has more than half of its programming locked up. Current dramas Supernatural
, The Vampire Diaries
, Beauty and the Beast
and Hart of Dixie
have all been renewed and the network has officially ordered the Vampire Diaries
spin-off The Originals
But will all of those returning shows come back to their same time slots? The answer might be "No," especially for Supernatural
Not all titles featured on BuddyTV are available through Amazon Prime.
The CW has officially decided to add repeats of Supernatural
to its Friday night schedule starting this week. On May 3, 10 and 17, repeats of that week's new Wednesday episode of Supernatural
will also air Friday at 9pm, the same time slot the show had last season. It replaces previously planned repeats of the reality competition Oh Sit
Does the decision to air repeats of Supernatural
on Fridays signal a potential return to the show's old time slot? I would guess so.Arrow
is easily the CW's biggest hit and, when planning for the fall, it seems only logical that they would want to use the success of Arrow to help launch a new drama. In my opinion, a show like the new drama The Tomorrow People
(assuming it gets picked up) would be a perfect fit. Not only is it also about super heroes, but it stars Robbie Amell, aka Arrow
star Stephen Amell's cousin. You can't fight synergy like that.
Whatever happens Wednesdays at 9pm, it seems like keeping the network's oldest show (by four years) after its biggest hit would be, objectively a wasted opportunity. Supernatural
has undoubtedly seen a boost in its ratings this year after moving away from Friday, but it did OK in its old time slot. For Supernatural
, and for the CW, being moved to Friday night is not the sure sign of death it is for many other networks.
If I were in charge of the CW, I would certainly consider moving Supernatural
back to Fridays, and if the reruns perform better in the ratings than repeats of Oh Sit
or new episodes of Cult
, it could be a sign that Sam and Dean will head back to Fridays for season 9.Supernatural
currently airs Wednesdays at 9pm on the CW.
