Today the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation released its nominees for the 20th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. Aside from the usual television nominees like The L Word and Ugly Betty, there was one atypical nominee: Supernatural.

The GLAAD Media Awards have a special category for an individual episode of a show that doesn't feature a regular gay character. Supernatural was nominated for “Ghostfacers,” the faux reality TV series episode that featured intern Corbett (current 90210 jock Dustin Milligan) who had a gay infatuation with Ed, resulting in the classic line, “Ed, you have to go be gay for that poor dead intern.”

In this category, Supernatural will compete against:

“My Maharishi is Bigger Than Your Maharishi,” Life on Mars - In this episode, Sam investigates the murder of a Vietnam War veteran that reveals that soldier was leading a secret gay life.

“Slam,” Ghost Whisperer - An episode about ghosts haunting a high school that relate back to former students being taunted for being lesbians.

“Tandem Repeats,” ER - Abby treats a young transgendered patient.

“Unidentified Funk.,” The New Adventures of Old Christine - Christine and Barb have their gym shut down by their parent company because of their lesbian marriage.

Other major TV series nominees are:

Best Drama Series
Brothers and Sisters
South of Nowhere
The L Word
True Blood
Torchwood

Best Comedy Series
Ugly Betty
Reaper
Skins
Greek
Desperate Housewives

The GLAAD Media Awards will be presented in New York City on March 28.
